CONGRESSMAN COSTELLO ANNOUNCES COPS GRANT FOR ALTON

WASHINGTON-- Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today announced that the Alton Police Department will receive a grant of $150,000 to hire six full time employees under the Community Oriented Policing Services Making Officer Redeployment Effective (COPS MORE 2000) program.

"I am pleased that the Alton Police Department received this funding which will allow police officers to focus more of their efforts on the streets and protecting the safety of our community," said Costello, a former police officer.

The grant provides up to 75% of the total cost of civilian salaries for one year, up to $25,000. The funds may used to hire civilian support staff only. The COPS MORE program is overseen by the Department of Justice.
