CONGRESSMAN COSTELLO ANNOUNCES PUBLIC TELECOMMUNICATIONS FACILITIES PROGRAM GRANT FOR SOUTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
CARBONDALE - Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) today announced that Southern Illinois University at Carbondale public radio station WSIU will receive a $93,798 grant under the Public Telecommunications Facilities Program as administered by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
"This is good news for the area served by WSIU." Costello said. "This grant will extend the coverage of WSIU by activating facilities in Mt. Vernon. The expanded signal will reach an additional 56,250 people in southern Illinois providing them with expanded public radio service."
The PTEP program supports the expansion and improvement of public telecommunications services by providing matching grants for public facilities that deliver educational and cultural programs across the nation.
