COSTELLO WELCOMES END OF THE ELECTION, COMMENDS BUSH AND GORE
WASHINGTON - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello issued the following statement regarding the conclusion of the 2000 presidential election:
"Tuesday's Supreme Court decision and last night's eloquent
speeches from President-elect Bush and Vice President Gore mark the end of this
year's presidential election. While it took some time to determine the winner,
the legal actions pursued by both men where within their rights, just as all
citizens are entitled to their day in court. Our government has withstood this
test, and the rule of law has prevailed. I commend Vice President Gore for his
graciousness in defeat and for all of his efforts on behalf of the country and
the Democratic Party. I stand ready to work with President-elect Bush and offer
my congratulations on his victory. The country is eager to move ahead and address
the many important issues facing the nation, and I look forward to doing just
that during the 107th Congress."
