CONGRESS APPROVES WRDA
WASHINGTON- The House today passed the Conference Report for the Water Resources
and Development Act (WRDA) of 2000, which provides authorizations to combat
flooding and waste-water infrastructure problems, Congressman Jerry F. Costello
(D-IL) announced today.
"This is good news for the 12th District of Illinois," Costello said. "This legislation is the first step in getting needed funds to our communities to improve their water infrastructure."
Under the legislation, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is directed to investigate flood damage reduction projects for the Columbia Levee, the Prairie du Pont Levee and Monroe County, as well as investigate an aquatic ecosystem restoration project for Chouteau Island.
Funding for the projects must come from a separate appropriations bill.
The President is expected to sign the legislation shortly.
