WASHINGTON - The US House of Representatives yesterday approved funding for the Veterans Administration, Housing and Urban Development and Energy and Water initiatives. The approved bill included $300,000, requested by US Representative Jerry Costello (D-IL), to aid in the construction of the Dunn Richmond Research Park at SIUC.
"I was pleased to secure this funding which will help SIUC with construction of the Dunn Richmond Research Park," said Costello. "When completed the research park will promote hi-tech and research related private business which will eventually lead to1200 new jobs in our area."
Earlier this year Costello made a site visit to the research park with representatives from SIUC. He believed it was a good project and worked on securing funds when he returned to Washington.
Future researchers at the SIUC campus will work on many projects including development of computer software dealing with medical diagnostics, agricultural related initiatives, and biogenetics.
The funding was approved by the full House of Representatives and the Senate. The President is expected to sign the bill into law within the next week.
