MADISON COUNTY RECEIVES $5,188,000 FEDERAL HOUSING GRANT

WASHINGTON-- US Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) has announced that Madison, Illinois has been awarded a $5,188,000 grant from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development.

"This funding will allow Madison County to rehabilitate their facilities to better serve low-income families and to help these families obtain safe and affordable housing," said Costello. "I strongly support CDBG funds, which assists local housing authorities in their efforts to enhance public housing."

Costello has been a strong supporter of increasing HUD funding to extend these initiatives.

Madison County will use its funding for Homeowner and Rental New Construction and Rehabilitation including: water, sewer, and street improvements; handicap accessibility, public services predominately in Alton and Granite City; clearance of unsafe structures and economic development in Alton; and assistance for homeless individuals.
