CONGRESSMAN COSTELLO ANNOUNCES $1.069 MILLION IN FEDERAL SCENIC BYWAYS GRANTS
WASHINGTON-- Congressman Jerry F. Costello (D-IL) today announced that two scenic byways in Southern Illinois, Ohio River Scenic Route and Great Rivers Road, will receive $1,068,876 in federal funds to improve the Scenic Byways from the Federal Highway Administration.
"Scenic byways are a significant asset to our community," Costello said. "I am pleased the byways will receive this funding, which will continue expanded tourism in our area."
Ohio River Scenic Route, running from the South-eastern Illinois along the Ohio River to Illinois' southern-most tip at the confluence on the Ohio and Mississippi River, will receive $776,464 to construct a Visitor's Center and further implementation of the Corridor Management Plan.
Great River Road, which runs the length of the Mississippi from Dubuque, Iowa to Pudacah, Kentucky, will receive $292,412 for promotion of the Byway and implementation of the Corridor Management Plan.
Two hundred thousand dollars is also available statewide for marketing initiatives.
