ASSIST OLIN IN PRESENTATION
Local Corporation Contributes to $100,000 to World War II Memorial
WASHINGTON-- Congressmen John Shimkus (R, Illinois-20) and Jerry Costello (D, Illinois-12) participated in a check presentation in Washington today. The Olin Corporation of East Alton, Illinois, contributed $100,000 to the effort to build a World War II Memorial on the Mall in Washington.
Former Senator Bob Dole is leading the fund drive for construction of the memorial. Dole was present at the ceremony to accept the donation.
Winchester Ammunition, an Olin division once known as Western Cartridge Company, was the major supplier of small caliber ammunition for U. S. and Allied forces during WWII.
"Winchester is a large employer in my Congressional District which has been involved in many civic duties in our area and throughout the country," said Costello. "I would like to commend them for their continued commitment to our World War II veterans."
"I commend Olin on this contribution toward a commemorative effort that will provide an education on a time in our nation's history that many are too young to appreciate," Shimkus added. "I also want to thank Senator Dole for his tireless efforts on behalf of World War II veterans."
