WASHINGTON-- US Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) has announced that Shawnee Health Service in Carterville will receive a $401,126 grant from the US Department of Health and Human Services Health Resources & Services Administration.
"I am pleased Shawnee Health Service received this grant, which is a 30% increase over last year's funding, to expand their program and to purchase additional pulmonary equipment," said Costello. "The staff at Shawnee Health Clinic operate an excellent program providing treatment to the many coal miners in our area who suffer from black lung disease."
Shawnee Health Service's Black Lung Clinics Program (BLCP) targets coal miners with black lung; however, it serves anyone with lung disease regardless of their ability to pay. The BLCP is funded 100% by HRSA/DHHS.
