U.S. CONGRESSMAN JERRY COSTELLO HONORS LOCAL FAMILY WITH ANGELS IN ADOPTION AWARD

Alton, Illinois -- On Monday, November 18, 2002 ,U.S. Representative Jerry Costello, (D-Ill) honored Esther Brown of Alton, Illinois as a local "Angel in Adoption" at an award presentation at the Alton City Hall in Alton, Illinois.

Esther Brown, who is a retired CNA, initially provided foster care to her four grand children, two boys and two girls, for seven years prior to adopting them. Three of the children were adopted in 2001, with the last child being adopted in 2002. She supports continuing the ties to the children's birth family. She is a caring and responsible relative who has demonstrated a sincere desire and commitment to provide permanency for her grandchildren. She treats each child as an individual and makes every effort to help each child reach their fullest potential.

Costello, who is a member of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, nominated Ms. Brown for this year's "Angels in Adoption" program. Each year the Coalition on Adoption, made up of a 150 members of Congress, honors individuals and families across the nation who have made a difference in the lives of children and families through adoption.

The "Angels in Adoption" program was created to raise public awareness of the many different ways that committed individuals can help children and families through adoption. November is also National Adoption Month.

Costello said "that I am truly delighted to honor Esther, who has made such a great contribution to adoption. She has a willingness to open her heart and make a permanent commitment to children."

Ms. Brown was presented an award and an angel silver pin by Costello for her efforts.
