Cahokia, IL -- On Monday, October 14, 2002 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) presented a Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Assistance to Firefighters grant check to the Cahokia Volunteer Fire Department at a short ceremony held at the Cahokia, Illinois Fire Station.
The FEMA Fire Assistance grant, in the amount of $28,269 will be used by Cahokia for Fire Prevention Training Programs. Cahokia Fire Chief David Nulson and Mayor Dee Reed accepted the check from Costello.
The FEMA Fire Assistance grant program assists Fire Departments and Emergency Responders with grant funds for equipment and vehicles. Costello co-sponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program that is administered by FEMA.
