Evansville, IL -- On Monday, October 14, 2002 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) participated in a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Broad Street highway project in Evansville, Illinois.
Costello, along with Village of Evansville officials, cut the ribbon to officially open the improved Broad Street during a ceremony held on Monday. Costello secured $262,500 in federal funds to widen and improve Broad Street from Cherry to 6th Street, which is a main access road in Evansville. Broad Street's surface has been improved with curbs and gutter and other improvements which will allow for additional traffic on this important roadway.
Costello said that "these kinds of projects are important to facilitate economic development and also help improve the quality of life for area residents".
