THE FOLLOWING STATEMENT WAS ISSUED BY US CONGRESSMAN JERRY COSTELLO CONCERNING THE DEATH OF U.S. SENATOR PAUL WELLSTONE

Belleville, IL - Like everyone I was shocked and saddened to learn of the airplane crash that took the life of my colleague and friend Senator Paul Wellstone, his wife, daughter and campaign staff.

Paul was not only my colleague, he was my friend. I had the greatest admiration for his commitment to public service and for always standing up for what he was passionate about and believed in. Paul was a great public servant - he served the people of Minnesota and our great nation with pride, conviction and purpose.

Those of us who knew and worked with him will miss him greatly.
