Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the House of Representatives has approved funding for projects at Scott Air Force Base as part of the Military Construction Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2004. Security upgrades to the Shiloh Gate totaling $1.9 million were included in President Bush's budget and remain in the bill. Also, Costello was able to include $2.52 million for planning and design of a new Tanker Airlift Control Center. The House authorized these funds as part of the Defense Authorization bill last month.
"This is an important step in the process of bringing these resources to Scott," said Costello. "The brave men and women serving at Scott have played a central role in both the war in Iraq and our continuing fight against international terrorism. These improvements will enhance security and efficiency at the base."
