Carterville / Du Quoin, IL - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) and Delta Regional Authority Federal Co-Chair Pete Johnson presented Delta Regional Authority grant awards on Monday, November 29th at two events in southern Illinois:
Carterville City Hall, Congressman Costello and DRA Federal Co-Chair Pete Johnson presented a $50,000 grant to the City of Carterville for extension of its sewer system to serve Southern Illinois University's Automotive School at its Carterville campus. Accepting the award on behalf of Carterville was Mayor Charles Mausey. Also present were Illinois State Senator Gary Forby and Illinois State Representative John Bradley.
Du Quoin City Hall, Costello and Johnson also presented a $27,000 grant to the City of Du Quoin for design and installation of a new lift station at Du Quoin Industrial Park. Accepting the award on behalf of the City of Du Quoin was Mayor John Rednour.
The DRA is modeled after the Appalachian Regional Commission and responsible for developing plans and establishing programs for the economic development of the Delta region. Sixteen Illinois counties are in the Delta, including Randolph, Perry, Jackson, Union, Alexander, Pulaski, Franklin, Williamson, Johnson, Massac, Hamilton, Saline, Pope, White, Gallatin, and Hardin.
