SOUTHERN ILLINOIS CHILDREN'S CHOIR RECEIVES ARTS GRANT

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the Southern Illinois Children's Choir, which is sponsored by the Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) School of Music, has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Illinois Arts Council.  The funds will be used to support the activities of the choir.

The choir is in its 14th year and is comprised of children in grades 3-9.  The Illinois Arts Council was created in 1965 to encourage and support the arts and receives both state and federal funding.

"The Southern Illinois Children's Choir is a real asset for the region," said Costello.  "It gives our kids a professional experience and the opportunity to develop their talent, while providing quality performances for our communities.  This is another way that SIUC is improving quality of life in Southern Illinois."
