COSTELLO HONORS LOCAL FAMILY WITH ANGELS IN ADOPTION AWARD

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) yesterday presented the "Angels in Adoption" Award to Jesse and Gloria Lewis of Cahokia at the Lilly Hill Baptist Church in East St. Louis.  

Jesse and Gloria are a great example of the importance of relative adoptions, as they are the parents of 13 children, seven of which are grandchildren adopted in 2000.  The Lewis' love of family and tremendous energy are making a big difference in their children's lives.  They are extremely dedicated to the unique personalities and abilities of all of their children, taking an active role in their educational planning and supporting them in all of their activities.  

Costello, who is a member of the Congressional Coalition on Adoption, nominated the Lewis' for this year's "Angels in Adoption" program. Each year the Coalition on Adoption honors individuals and families across the nation who have made a difference in the lives of children and families through adoption.

The "Angels in Adoption" program was created to raise public awareness of the many different ways that committed individuals can help children and families through adoption. November is also National Adoption Month.

"While we celebrate the spirit of adoption in November, the Lewis' bring that spirit to their family every day," said Costello.  "Their contribution to their children and community speak to all of us, and certainly deserves this recognition."
