Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that six fire departments and a fire district in Southern Illinois have received Assistance to Firefighters grants through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The Mound City Fire Department, the West Frankfort Fire Department, the Karnak Volunteer Fire Department, the Christopher Fire Department and the Ewing Northern Fire Protection District will use these awards for fire operations and firefighter safety; the Pittsburg Volunteer Fire Department will use their award to purchase a firefighting vehicle. Costello cosponsored the legislation that created the Assistance to Firefighters program.
