Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the state of Illinois has received a $850,887 grant from the Delta Regional Authority (DRA). The funds will be used to four-lane IL 146 from East Cape Girardeau to IL 3.
"Funding for infrastructure improvements creates jobs and long-term economic benefits," said Costello. "Maintaining and improving our roads and highways is critical to the economic health of the nation."
Modeled after the Appalachian Regional Commission, the DRA is responsible for developing plans and establishing programs for the economic development of the Delta region. Sixteen Illinois counties are in the Delta, including Alexander, Franklin, Gallatin, Hamilton, Hardin, Jackson, Johnson, Massac, Perry, Pope, Pulaski, Randolph, Saline, Union, White and Williamson.
Costello is a senior member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee and the Congressional Delta Caucus. He has been a leader in the effort to create DRA funding specifically for road and highway projects.
