Valmeyer, IL - On Wednesday, November 28, 2007 U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced the location of a new National Personnel Records Center Annex in Valmeyer.
The new facility will be developed by N.A.R.A.J.J.P.K., L.L.C., of Columbia, Illinois for the National Archives and Records Administration. When completed, the facility will provide 398,862 square feet of storage in an underground limestone quarry known as Rock City.
Construction of the facility will create 75 to 80 jobs and another 30 to 35 jobs will transfer here from other National Personnel Records locations within the St. Louis metropolitan area.
This underground facility will provide an efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly method of storing government records, including military and dependant medical records, IRS and Treasury records.
“I applaud the decision by the National Archives and Records Administration to locate this Records Center Annex in Valmeyer and welcome them to our area,” said Costello. “Using the former limestone quarry for records storage is an excellent way to reuse our area’s natural resources for economic benefit.”
