COSTELLO SECURES FUNDING FOR SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, GREAT RIVERS RESEARCH CENTER
Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that he secured funding for several projects in the 12th Congressional District as part of the final version of the Labor/HHS/Education and Military Construction/Veterans' Administration Appropriations bills for fiscal year 2008. The combined legislation passed the House of Representatives late yesterday and will soon be considered by the Senate.
Projects include:
- Scott Air Force Base
- $16.7 million for construction of a Security Forces Operations building.
- $8.2 million for construction of a new Child Development Center .
- St. Clair County - $8.1 million for construction of a Readiness Center to be used by the Illinois Army Reserve and Illinois National Guard.
- Great Rivers Research Center - $400,000 for programs at the Center. A joint venture between Lewis and Clark Community College , the University of Illinois and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, the Center conducts research on river ecology, develops watershed and river management strategies, and educates students and the public about these issues.
"Scott is growing, and this funding will help make sure its facilities keep pace as new missions arrive," said Costello. "The River Research Center is conducting research that has regional, national and international significance. It is a collaborative effort that will be a magnet for other researchers and students from around the world."
