Washington - Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) welcomed today’s announcement by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs that Carbondale will be the site of a new community-based outpatient clinic in 2009. The new clinic will offer primary care, mental health, laboratory and telehealth services and will make referrals for other medical services. It is expected that the new facility will open in mid-2009 and employ 16 people.
“We need to continue to take steps such as this to give our veterans more options for medical care,” said Costello. “Our veterans’ health network has been through a great deal in Southern Illinois, and we must continue to work to reestablish our veterans’ confidence in the VA system. Providing more service options is a positive step in this process.”
