Belleville - On Monday, May 26, 2008, U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) participated in two Memorial Day Programs, one in Pinckneyville and one in Percy.
In Pinckneyville, Congressman Costello spoke at a ceremony sponsored by the Daffron-Presswood Post 2504. After the program, Costello spoke with a Gold Star Mother who lost her only son in Vietnam.
In Percy, Congressman Costello spoke at a service sponsored by American Legion Post 1145 and the American Legion Auxiliary. As part of this program, Costello presented medals, specifically obtained for this occasion by Post 1145, honoring six Korean War veterans.
“I was deeply honored to participate in these Memorial Day programs,” said Costello. “It was particularly moving to speak with the mother whose only son paid the ultimate sacrifice, and the group of Korean War veterans, whose service in what has been called the Forgotten War must never be forgotten.”
