Scott Air Force Base - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) participated today in the groundbreaking ceremony for the 932d Operations Group Facility at Scott Air Force Base. When completed, this new 52,000 square foot building will serve as a combined operations facility for the 932d Operations Group, 73d Airlift Squadron and 54th Airlift Squadron.
Costello secured $10.2 million in a Congressional earmark for construction of the new Group Facility in the long term Continuing Resolution for Fiscal Year 2007.
“I was pleased to secure funding for this important project,” said Costello. “This is one more important development that provides improved facilities for the men and women at Scott as well as securing Scott’s future as a vital component both in our nation’s defense and in our regional economy.”
The 932d and the 1,000 men and women who are assigned to the Wing were scheduled to be de-activated and leave Scott in 2003 until Costello secured a $225 million Congressional earmark to replace the C-9 airplanes with new C-40 planes. In addition, Costello secured $88 million this year for an additional C-40 for the Wing.
