Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that Southern Illinois University Carbondale (SIUC) has received a $391,269 grant as part of American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding from the National Institutes of Health. The funds will be used for a research project titled, “Understanding the Role of Bile as a Mechanism for Improved Glucose Homeostasis.”
“Recovery Act funding is having a major positive impact on higher education in the state of Illinois and across the nation,” said Costello, a senior member of the House Science and Technology Committee. “The effects of the economic downturn have been dramatic for state universities, and these resources are coming at a critical time, helping to promote quality research and preserving jobs, both of which foster economic development.”
