ST. CLAIR COUNTY TRANSIT DISTRICT RECEIVES RECOVERY ACT FUNDING

Washington - U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL) announced today that the St. Clair County Transit District will share in a $4,030,000 award to replace paratransit buses with hybrid models. The funding, part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, is going to transit agencies throughout the State of Illinois that are pursuing cutting-edge environmental technologies to help reduce global warming, lessen America's dependence on foreign oil and create green jobs.

“Using hybrids in our public transportation fleet is a step in the right direction from both an energy consumption and air quality perspective,” said Costello. “These are the types of projects that promote the goals of the Recovery Act and I will continue to support these efforts that benefit our region.”
