COSTELLO LAUDS AIRLINE FEE DISCLOSURE REQUIREMENTS
WASHINGTON – U.S. Congressman Jerry Costello (D-IL), Ranking Democrat on the Aviation Subcommittee, today lauded new federal rules requiring airlines and ticket agents to clearly disclose all costs associated with the price of a ticket at the outset of the purchase. This will allow air travelers to better understand the full cost of the ticket.
“This type of cost transparency is long overdue,” said Costello. “As Chairman of the Aviation Subcommittee during the previous two Congresses, I held regular hearings on aviation consumer issues, including on airline fees, and asked the Government Accountability Office to examine the proliferation in fees and their effects on consumers and the Aviation Trust Fund. Our message was heard by the Department of Transportation and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and I want to commend Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood and Acting FAA Administrator Michael Huerta for their commitment to these issues and keeping this process moving. The flying public is tired of being hit with a barrage of fees as they pay for their tickets. Upfront pricing restores trust to the process and lets consumers make informed decisions.”
