DLN: Costello, others: Don’t shut it down

WASHINGTON >> Freshman U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello recalls the Congressional government shutdown of October 2013 well, but not with fondness.
This week, he and other new GOP members of the House of Representatives signed a letter urging their colleagues not to fall into the trap of shutting down the federal government in a fight over continued funding for Planned Parenthood and its health services for women.
Recalling the 2013 shutdown, Costello, R-6th, of West Chester urged his colleagues to not repeat past mistakes.
“In 2013, as a Chester County commissioner, I was frustrated that the federal government unnecessarily shut down for 16 days,” he said. “I remember that frustration all-too-well, especially as I hear some of my colleagues talk about a government shutdown as a realistic and possible option.”
