Helping veterans file their claims
Veterans are waiting too long to get the help they need, according to U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello.
A Chester County Republican who represents part of Berks, Costello has sponsored a bill that would direct the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to hold events in local communities to help veterans file their claims. Last week, the U.S. House of Representatives approved the bill.
The bill would create a pilot program designed to get VA staffers out of their offices and in public settings to meet with veterans. The bill is dubbed the Veteran Engagement Teams Act.
Costello and other members of Pennsylvania's congressional delegation have complained that the VA is not moving quickly enough to make reforms.
"With the mismanagement that we have seen at the Department of Veteran Affairs, including at the Philadelphia VA and other VA regional offices across the country, the VET Act is an especially timely and forward-looking solution for our veterans," Costello said in a statement.
