Reading Eagle: U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello talks about the need to connect veterans to good jobs
As published in the Reading Eagle
There are quality programs available to get veterans into good jobs when they leave the military, U.S. Rep. Ryan Costello concluded after tours of job training programs at two Berks County schools Thursday. The federal government's job is making sure veterans have the tools they need to access them, said Costello, a Chester County Republican who represents part of Berks County.
Costello said that takes more than just pointing veterans in the right direction and moving on.
There needs to be regular discussion between schools, employers, veterans and federal agencies to make sure veterans are able to move into civilian careers.
"You need to make sure that the job training programs are working," Costello said. "You need to look at the job training statistics. You need to make sure there's that communication back and forth."
Costello, who serves on a congressional subcommittee focusing on economic opportunity for veterans, toured Berks Technical Institute in Wyomissing and Reading Area Community College's Schmidt Training and Technology Center in downtown Reading.
