CONGRESSMAN COSTELLO SPEAKS ABOUT INNOVATIVE SOLUTIONS AT BIPARTISAN TASK FORCE TO COMBAT THE HEROIN EPIDEMIC PRESS CONFERENCE
Washington, D.C. – Congressman Ryan Costello (PA-06) spoke at a Bipartisan Task Force to Combat the Heroin Epidemic press conference yesterday to bring awareness to the opioid epidemic and to express his support for legislation that will address the epidemic through a combination of different measures.
“We need to do everything we can to assist individuals, their families, and communities, including in parts of my district, affected by this tragic epidemic, and we should also work together to prevent people from becoming addicted in the first place,” Congressman Ryan Costello said.
Because of Congressman Costello’s focus on addiction prevention, he is an original cosponsor of The Prevent Drug Addiction Act of 2016, a key piece of the Task Force’s agenda. This bipartisan legislation works to tackle the epidemic on the preventative side through education efforts, as well as measures to prevent and treat prescription drug addiction. Congressman Costello said the series of legislation and other work being done in Congress is intended to be forward-looking to start down the path to end this epidemic.
In Pennsylvania’s Sixth District, companies like Egalet are at the forefront of providing cutting-edge results. Egalet’s work to develop a medication resistant to abuse demonstrates why working with health care providers on technologies for medications is so important. Health care companies offer more innovative tools in the work to prevent the opioid addiction.
Congressman Costello emphasized his commitment to working with his colleagues, local health care companies, community leaders, and all stakeholders in order to develop the best solutions for those suffering from addiction and to prevent addiction from ever happening.
