Costello Announces Boyertown Firefighters Receiving Federal Grant

West Chester, PA – Congressman Ryan Costello (PA-06) recently announced that Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue will receive a federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG). The Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue will receive $19,454 to improve operations and safety.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) work cooperatively with the U.S. Fire Administration to provide funding critical to strengthening the nation’s level of preparedness.

“Boyertown residents rely on first responders to ensure their communities remain safe,” said Congressman Costello. “I am grateful that this grant will provide the necessary funds for Boyertown Area Fire and Rescue to bring quality service to Boyertown and the surrounding community.”

As a Member of Congress, Costello has made it a priority to identify ways to be an advocate for our local first responders. As a member of the House EMS Caucus, he has called for continued support for the AFG program.

In Fiscal Year 2014, FEMA’s AFG program will award approximately *$340 million directly to fire departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and other hazards.
