Costello Announces Kimberton Firefighters Receiving Federal Grant

July 27, 2015
Press Release

West Chester, PA – Congressman Ryan Costello (PA-06) announced today that Kimberton Firefighters will receive a federal Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) for operations and safety. Kimberton Fire Company located in Phoenixville will receive $38,710 for operations and safety.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) work cooperatively with the U.S. Fire Administration to provide funding critical to helping firefighters protect themselves and the communities they serve.

“Kimberton firefighters will use these vital funds to purchase necessary safety and operations equipment to keep our communities safe. Growing up in Phoenixville, I know how tirelessly local firefighters work to protect our neighborhoods,” said Congressman Ryan Costello. “This grant will help them continue bringing quality services across five townships of Southeastern Pennsylvania. We all appreciate their service. ”

For 86 years, Kimberton Fire Company has served Pennsylvanians by providing emergency response and preventative education services. As of July 2015, Kimberton Fire Company responded to hundreds of calls with a staff made up of mostly volunteers. The grant for operations will help them to continue bringing quality services across five townships of Southeastern Pennsylvania.

Since coming into Congress, Congressman Costello has made it a priority to identify ways to be an advocate for our local first responders. As a member of the House EMS Caucus, he has called for continued support for the AFG program.

In Fiscal Year 2014, FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program will award approximately *$340 million directly to fire departments and non-affiliated EMS organizations to enhance their response capabilities and to more effectively protect the health and safety of the public and emergency response personnel with respect to fire and other hazards.

Congressman Ryan Costello represents portions of Berks, Chester, Lebanon and Montgomery Counties. Visit www.costello.house.gov for more information.
