Costello Reminds Students of Congressional App Challenge Submission Deadline
Washington, D.C. – Rep. Ryan Costello (PA-06), a member of the Congressional STEM Caucus and Co-Chair of the 21st Century Skills Caucus, reminded students of the approaching November 2, 2016 deadline for submissions for the 2016 Congressional App Challenge.
In August, Rep. Costello announced his office was participating in the challenge.
Last year’s winners, a team of seniors from Wyomissing Area High School, will be participating in this year’s challenge as judges. Team Watt met with Rep. Costello earlier this year to show him their app, Watt, which encourages users to reduce energy consumption and increase environmental awareness.
Full details of the Challenge are listed below:
Students who want to participate will need to develop a software app no later than November 2, 2016, to be judged by a panel of computer science professionals and congressional representatives. In addition to being recognized by Rep. Costello, the winning app will be featured on a display in the U.S. Capitol building.

- The Competition Submission Period opened on July 18, 2016 and will close on November 2, 2016
- Students must be in high school or below and must reside in the district of the participating Member of Congress
- Students may compete on their own or in teams of up to 4 – teams must have 2 members from the district
