Representing the 6th District of Pennsylvania

Press Release

Washington, D.C. -- Rep. Ryan Costello (PA-06) issued the following statement regarding his vote in support of S. Con. Res. 3 and House passage today of S. Con. Res. 3, which provides Congress with the legislative tools necessary to repeal and ultimately replace the Affordable Care Act (ACA), but was not a vote repeal the ACA:

“The Affordable Care Act has resulted in higher out-of-pocket costs for families, less access for patients, and a more expensive and complicated healthcare system than existed before it was implemented. Premiums continue to soar, while insurance companies are leaving the exchanges. The situation is only going to get worse if we pretend that the ACA is working. The way to improve our healthcare system is to focus on making coverage more affordable, empowering patients with greater choice and flexibility, and expanding access for care, while protecting those who currently have coverage, especially those with pre-existing conditions. This can only occur by reducing the role of Washington, D.C. bureaucrats and the ACA’s mandates on doctors and patients. It can only occur by bringing about more transparency in what the actual cost of healthcare services are and by inviting more competition in the health insurance marketplace. It can only occur by encouraging greater innovation in healthcare, enhancing program integrity, and taking commonsense steps such as medical liability reform. All of these things must occur to create an affordable healthcare system. My focus is going to be on ensuring a stable healthcare system, as we clean up many of the damaging impacts caused by the ACA, and working to achieve these objectives that are so important to the health and security of families and businesses across Pennsylvania and our country.”
