House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee Approves Surface Transportation Bill
Washington, D.C. – On Thursday, the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee considered and approved H.R. 3763: the Surface Transportation Reauthorization and Reform Act (STRRA) of 2015, bipartisan, multi-year legislation to reauthorize and reform federal highway, transit, and transportation safety programs. The STRRA is a fiscally responsible surface transportation reauthorization bill that:
- Improves our Nation’s infrastructure
- Reforms our surface transportation programs
- Refocuses programs on national priorities
- Promotes innovation to make the system and programs work better
- Maintains a strong commitment to safety
- Provides greater flexibility and more certainty for states and local governments to accomplish large projects and improvements
- Streamlines the federal bureaucracy
Included as part of this bipartisan legislative effort is a provision championed by Congressman Costello that would expand transportation options for commuters by encouraging greater coordination with employers and the private sector without imposing new mandates or increasing the Federal deficit.
H.R. 3763 is now awaiting consideration by the full House of Representatives.
Congressman Costello applauded the approval of the multi-year bill: “Getting this long-awaited, much-needed legislation ready for passage has been a primary focus of mine as a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee,” said Congressman Ryan Costello. “For the first time in many years, the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee green-lighted a six-year bill that will address the rail, highway, and safety needs of our transportation and infrastructure systems in Southeastern Pennsylvania and across the country.
“I am pleased that my colleagues could come together in a bipartisan fashion to reach a consensus on a bill. I look forward to House action on this bill as soon as possible.”
On the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, Congressman Costello serves on the Highways and Transit, Aviation, and the Economic Development, Public Buildings and Emergency Management Subcommittees. More information on the STRRA here.
