Rep. Costello Meets Congressional App Challenge Winner from PA-6
Washington, D.C. – During Computer Science Education Week in December, Rep. Ryan Costello (PA-06) congratulated Surya Ramanathan on being named the winner of the Congressional App Challenge from Pennsylvania’s Sixth Congressional District. Recently, Rep. Costello met Surya during the annual House of Code Demo Day in Washington, D.C., where winners from each congressional district have the opportunity to meet their representative and discuss their app.
“The Congressional App Challenge is a way for Congress to support students’ innovation and encourage them to explore opportunities in STEM,” said Rep. Costello, a member of the STEM Caucus. “I enjoyed learning more about Surya’s creative app and having the opportunity to congratulate him on his hard work.”
Surya, a student from Downingtown STEM Academy, created an app called Prophexy. By using an algorithm, the goal of the app is to predict future test scores and provide insight for teachers as to how their teaching methods are resonating with students.
The runner-up of the Challenge was a team of students from Owen J. Roberts, Ahmed Alveed, Justin Schwenk, Syder Defibaugh, and Josh Diamond. They designed the app Playmakerz Plus, which would allow sports teams to create a virtual playbook by hand-drawing plays and saving them in the app.
